Spurs boss Pochettino has a big summer ahead of him

After the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, manager Mauricio Pochettino must now begin the rebuilding process with several stars out of contract, others with just one year left on the current deals, and some unwanted after failing to make the grade in north London.

There are already reports of a midfield upgrade on the cards with bids reportedly placed for Lyon ace Tanguy Ndombele and Real Betis ace Giovani Lo Celso, while it appears Ryan Sessegnon could join, too.

It’s increasingly likely there will be other incomings, but who will be making way for this influx of players? talkSPORT.com has taken a look at the 12 players most likely to leave the club this summer.

Michel Vorm

Incredibly, the Dutchman has now completed five seasons of service for Spurs and after originally being second choice to Hugo Lloris, the rise of Paulo Gazzaniga saw him demoted this campaign – although he did appear twice in the Champions League against Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven.

His last showing in the Premier League was in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in September and his contract will end this summer.

Youngster Alfie Whiteman is in pole position to become no.3 between the sticks for Spurs as the club need to keep the amount of foreign players on their books down.

Kieran Trippier

The ex-Burnley star has experienced some incredible highs and some horrible lows in his time at Spurs but it perhaps best put in context that he joined for £3million as a backup for Kyle Walker in 2015 and went on to become a hero for the club and the nation thanks to his delivery from the flank.

With an injury appearing to stifle him this campaign his struggled on and it has seen his form suffer but he played to the very end and now a move to Italy is set to be his reward.

Napoli were very interested in the player and, even though this has cooled, he’s now being linked with Juventus should Maurizio Sarri take charge.

He was prevented from talking about his future after the Champions League final, where he spent time in the crowd with fans following their heartbreaking defeat to Liverpool in Madrid.

Trippier did well up against Mane in Madrid

Toby Alderweireld

The Belgian, along with Jan Vertonghen, will go down as one of the club’s best ever defenders but is likely to leave thanks to the £25million release clause in his contract.

It’s a shame given his impressive return to form after last season’s terrible hamstring injury but at 30-years-old it appears Spurs are willing to let him leave with Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth already on the books.

Another youngster could be brought in, while the club do still have Cameron Carter-Vickers on the books along with TJ Eyoma who played against Tranmere in the FA Cup earlier this season.

Alderweireld was an inspired signing, ahead of Southampton, from Atletico Madrid

Serge Aurier

It hasn’t really worked out for the Ivorian in north London following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.

Challenged in a defensive capacity far more than he ever was in France he was often guilty of errors, particularly in his first season, while this year he’s often looked timid going forward, which is a surprise given his previous style with PSG.

Monaco have been linked with his services already and a Ligue 1 return may be best for all parties.

Danny Rose

The England left-back has been Spurs’ best player towards the end of the season with his all-action manner.

Now at his peak again, he would be a big loss but an exit has been rumoured for a year now and might happen this time.

Rose came through the ranks in north London having joined for £1million from Leeds United and became a fan favourite having converted from midfield to full-back.

His debut goal against Arsenal will never be forgotten and was named in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 PFA Teams of the Year.

Erik Lamela

After six seasons it’s probably time to call it a day at Spurs for the Argentine.

His body is clearly unable to handle the rigours of the Premier League but it shouldn’t be forgotten he’s shown his skills at points, particularly early in the 2018/19 season and during Spurs’ title tilt in 2015/16.

Due to the £30million price-tag, many will say he has been a flop but given his service in tough circumstances he’s been a fine squad player, while his conduct in games against Chelsea in the Battle of the Bridge and Arsenal will be well remembered by supporters.

Victor Wanyama

Having barely played for most of the campaign, the injury plagued Kenyan ended up being vital for Spurs at the end – playing 12 games from March onwards, despite knee problems.

He gave it all when the going go tough but with Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko remaining this season, it’s almost definite Wanyama will go as part of a midfield overhaul.

One of the worst signings in recent memory for Spurs – especially considering the protracted talks which saw him holed up away from the world for what felt like weeks as the club thrashed out a deal with Marseille.

In the end, the £11million man, a replacement for flop star Clinton N’Jie, despite his astonishing pace and skill, didn’t have the work ethic and defensive output to make him anything more than a fringe player.

Loan spells at Burnley and Monaco have hardly helped his cause and he should be a cheap pick up for a European club.

Christian Eriksen

The sensational Dane has long been rumoured with a move to Real Madrid and as the club plan a huge upgrade this summer under Zinedine Zidane it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave.

He has one year left on his current contract and while Spurs want to retain him, Eriksen wants to be on similar wages as Harry Kane, which could be tricky as the club continue to pay off their new stadium, while also spending on new players.

The club could still get a large sum for the 27-year-old entering his peak years and you can’t blame him for wanting a change of scenery after six seasons.

The youngster came on to the scene in 2015/16 and he offered plenty of promise, initially playing on the wing despite being a central midfield.

Loans to Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday haven’t quite kick-started his career in the way some may have hoped and it’s been reported the latter have entered talks about a bid to sign him on a permanent deal.

Vincent Janssen

Big things were expected when the free-scoring Dutch international signed from AZ Alkmaar in a £17million deal three seasons ago.

Sadly, he was unable to make the desired impact with his mobility a clear issue, although he did score vital penalties in the 2016/17 season it took him until May to net in open play.

A loan to Fenerbahce was okay but a foot injury left him struggling this term until a return in April when he made cameos against Brighton, West Ham, and Everton.

Most fans are still willing the Dutchman to succeed with Spurs

Fernando Llorente

It’s been an weird two-season spell at Spurs for the Spanish striker.

Always a backup for Harry Kane, he barely played last year, netting one Premier League goal and getting three in the FA Cup – all against Rochdale – and one in the Champions League.

This season, despite some poor showings, Llorente scored several vital goals, including two in nine Champions League appearances, while his second half showing against Ajax in Amsterdam was his best in his time at the club, helping Spurs come from 3-0 down on aggregate to earn a 3-3 draw and progress on away goals.

His contract is now up and fresh blood is likely to be wanted, although there is a chance Mauricio Pochettino could turn to Irish starlet Troy Parrott for cup games, even though he is just 17.
