Neil Warnock: Cardiff City boss says he’ll fine his wife for her comments after Chelsea defeat and makes promise to Liverpool

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock joked he would ‘fine his wife a week’s wages’ for her comments after the Chelsea defeat at the weekend.

Warnock was left raging at the officials after the Blues equalised through a blatantly offside goal on Sunday, with Maurizio Sarri’s men going on to complete a comeback, winning 2-1.

The former QPR boss later revealed on talkSPORT his wife, Sharon, wouldn’t have stopped him ‘thumping’ the officials after the controversy at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester City on Wednesday, Warnock addressed the comments again – albeit in a more light-hearted manner than the first time around.

He said: â€Å“I’ll fine [her] a week’s wages. I don’t regret saying it, it’s my wife she says what she wants.

“I can’t condone that and that’s why I took action against her. I’m sure lots of Cardiff fans felt the same.”

Warnock lost his temper on the touchline

Warnock could receive a Football Association charge over his comments about the officials following the controversial defeat to Chelsea.

He had said in his post-match interviews: “The best league in the world and probably the worst officials at the minute.”

But Warnock insists he is right to criticise refereeing standards in the English game and claims they have gone backwards under referees’ chief Mike Riley, head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited.

“I always thought Mike Riley was a manufactured referee from day one,” Warnock said.

“I don’t think he’s changed since then. He’s been coached manufactured, almost like a robot.

“He knows everything about the rules, but I feel these people struggle to understand the game and the human element.

“A lot of referees are like Mike Riley and that’s why I think we have gone backwards. Common sense thing is not allowed nowadays, but the best refs still use it.”

Warnock went on to confirm he wouldn’t be fielding the club’s Under-23 side against Pep Guardiola’s men, after threatening to do so in the aftermath of Sunday’s game.

Cardiff play City on Wednesday, and Warnock has promised their title rivals Liverpool his side will be going all out for victory.

“I won’t field a weakened side against them don’t worry and I’ll make sure my lads are right up for this one,” he said.

Goal-shy and toothless Terriers end 2 years in top flight

Goal-shy and toothless Terriers end 2 years in top flight
LONDON ̢ۢ Huddersfield's 24th Premier League loss this season served as a microcosm of their season after they became the first top-flight team to be relegated on Saturday.
While the Terriers showed spirit at Selhurst Park, it was ultimately a lack of bite, as has been all term, that proved to be their undoing as their two-year stay in the league ended prematurely following a 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace.
Wins for Burnley and Southampton sealed their fate as they matched Derby's record in 2008 as the only two teams to have gone down in March. While Ipswich were also relegated in 1995 with six games left to play, that season was played over 42 games, not 38.
Their lack of goals proved to be Huddersfield's undoing - they have failed to score in 38 of their 70 league games over the last two seasons - and, at 54.3 per cent, that is the highest ratio in the competition's history.
And, with just seven goals scored at the John Smith's Stadium, their tally of eight points on their home patch is seven less than 19th-placed Fulham.
Afterwards, Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert admitted their battling qualities were "not enough to win games in the Premier League".

Percentage of league games in which Huddersfield have fired blanks over the past two seasons.

The German, who left as coach of Bayern Munich's reserve team to take over from David Wagner in January, added: "It is hard to say what I am feeling - disappointment, of course.
"It sums the season up that a penalty (scored by Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic) decides the direction."
Huddersfield skipper Christopher Schindler agreed with his boss, admitting he was "empty at the moment".
He told Sky Sports: "If we see it retrospectively, at the front and back, we weren't good enough to stay in the best league in the world.
"It's very frustrating. It is hard to find the right words... but we have to be realistic. We knew from six or eight weeks ago it was going to be hard and we needed a miracle (to stay up).
"This season, we've spent so much energy, especially in the head. Nobody wants to have this on their CV, but obviously, we had some brilliant years with this club."
"We have to work as hard as we can and make the last weeks as positive as possible as we can use this as preparation for next season."

Manchester City crowned Premier League champions with defeat of Brighton as Liverpool finish runners-up

Manchester City are 2018/19 Premier League champions, beating Liverpool to the prize in one of the most thrilling title races in years.

The battle for silverware went all the way down to the final day, with City entering their match against Brighton one point clear of Liverpool in second.

Man City did what was required to retain the Premier League title

The Reds hosted Wolves in their season finale, and did what they had to do, beating Nuno’s side 2-0 at Anfield.

However, City’s own victory kept them ahead of Liverpool, ensuing Pep Guardiola’s side claimed a second successive Premier League title.

Liverpool were given hope of a potential upset at the Amex when Glenn Murray headed Brighton in front, but City were professional enough to overturn the deficit and seal a 4-1 comeback win.

Sergio Aguero levelled proceedings shortly after Murray’s opener, before Aymeric Laporte put the visitors in the lead before half-time.

The three points were wrapped up just after the hour mark, with Riyad Mahrez firing a thunderous shot past Mat Ryan to guarantee City the win – and the title.

Ilkay Gundogan’s stunning free-kick which made it four was the cherry on top for Guardiola and his players.

It was a remarkable title race which lasted until the final day, yet was oddly bereft of twists and turns as City and Liverpool relentlessly racked up win after win after win.

As it turned out Liverpool won their last nine but City’s 14-match winning streak, a record end to a top-flight season, ensured the Reds’ wait for the title will tick into a 30th year.

Over nine months and 38 games each, the two juggernauts clocked up 195 points between them as they disappeared over the horizon.

Liverpool’s final total of 97 would have seen them take the title at a canter in every other Premier League season, barring the last. Yet they still could not catch this incredible City side.

Luis Suarez has come back to bite Liverpool with a huge goal against his former club in their Champions League semi-final clash with Barcelona.

And yes, of course he celebrated.

Suarez did not hold back

The Uruguayan spent three years at Anfield, making over 100 appearances and becoming a cult hero, but that didn’t hold him back.

Despite not scoring in the Champions League for over a year, he ended his drought by sliding onto Jordi Alba’s inch-perfect cross to give Barcelona the lead at the Nou Camp.

Liverpool fans stood by Suarez through various controversies, including alleged racism after an incident involving former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

But the striker, speaking before the game, said there can be no room for sentiment on such a big stage.

He told the Daily Mail: â€Å“In the build up to the game it’s nice to talk about how massively grateful I am to Liverpool for all they gave me but, you know me, once I’m on the pitch there will be no friendships, no companions, no thought for all the lovely moments.

And he stayed true to his word with a full-on knee slide.

Now, some Liverpool fans on Twitter have declared their love affair with their former player well and truly over.

Anthony Martial transfer: The reason Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will NOT be able to sell Manchester United misfit this summer

Anthony Martial’s future at Manchester United is safe despite manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wanting to axe him from his squad this summer.

Martial, the France international, has found his position at Old Trafford in doubt following a number of poor displays over the final months of the season.

Martial has reverted to type after a brilliant spell of form following Solskjaer’s arrival at Old Trafford

He was one of United’s best players in the weeks immediately after Solskjaer was appointed the club’s caretaker manager, and the 23-year-old was rewarded with a new five-year contract in January.

However, less than five months after penning fresh terms, Solskjaer has become fed up by Martial, with reports earlier this month claiming the forward’s poor attitude in training is a key reason for the manager’s frustration.

Solskjaer has already admitted some of his squad may have played their final matches for Manchester United, with a major Old Trafford overhaul expected this summer.

Martial is safe at the club, however, The Mirror claim.

Man United’s co-chairman Joel Glazer is said to view Martial as the Old Trafford outfit’s ‘Pele’, with the Frenchman his favourite player in Solskjaer’s current squad.

Glazer’s backing of Martial was one of the reasons Jose Mourinho failed to sell him last summer, and the co-chairman will stand in the way of Solskjaer’s plans this summer as well.
