Steve Lovell was sacked on Friday

Lovell was relieved of his duties on Friday despite successfully guiding Gils to the safety of 12th in League One.

The 58-year-old had only been in charge for 18 months and won 32 of his 92 games as manager.

Cascarino said: “The decision to sack Steve Lovell is disgraceful and embarrassing for Gillingham and their fans.

“I know Paul Scally and I’ve spoken to him on numerous occasions, but I hope the fans give it to him today and let him know exactly how I feel.

“He’s got them to 13th in the league under very difficult circumstances.

“I spoke to Paul at a game and he said, ‘The answer was under my nose, it was Steve Lovell’. That’s gone quickly.

“He would know how difficult it’s been for Steve. I consider Gillingham my first love because it’s the first club I played for.

“I’m embarrassed for my club that they would do something like this.

“I think Paul’s decision is totally out of order.”
