Neil Warnock blasts ‘criminal’ letdown from officials as Cardiff manager is involved in stand-off at full-time after Chelsea loss

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock expressed his fury as he engaged in a bizarre stand-off with match officials after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Victor Camarasa’s strike appeared to have put the home team on the path to victory, however it slipped away in the 84th minute as Cesar Azpilicueta bagged an equaliser which replays later showed to be offside.

Then, six minutes later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek headed home to snatch all three points for the visitors.

On the touchline, Warnock lost his cool as he bellowed at various match officials and the opposition manager.

When the full-time whistle blew, he marched towards the referee and his assistants in the middle of the pitch and stood silently, staring at them with his hands on his head, then on his hips.

They eventually walked past him and left the field.

Warnock initially told media outlets he needed to take some time before giving post-fight interviews.

He eventually told talkSPORT’s Laurence Mora: “I’ve seen some of the decisions that those teams [relegation rivals] have had over the last few weeks.

“They’ve all had incredible decisions go their way, we don’t seem to get any.

“I don’t know, must be me – payback for me over the years, eh?

“It’s almost like now, no matter what opposition we play, it’s who’s in charge of the referee and who’s on the line really that’s important.

“I’m absolutely rock-bottom tonight because we didn’t deserve that.

“It’s as good as we’ve played this season against a top club and it feels criminal to be let down like that.”

When asked for a breakdown of his grievances, the Cardiff manager replied: “I think Craig Pawson’s one of our best referees if I’m honest, I just think he’s not given major decisions for whatever reason.

“I thought it could’ve quite easily been a red card at the end for Rudiger as well.

“I thought Morrison’s penalty in the first half was an obvious one. Second half, 53rd minute Rudiger pulls his shirt, he’s in a great position.

“I don’t understand why we can’t get these decisions and then to get punished like we have, I mean it’s a cruel game, isn’t it really? It hurts tonight.”
