Danny Welbeck will leave Arsenal this summer.
The striker, 28, who has not played since sustaining a broken ankle during a Europa League match in November, is out of contract on June 30 and the club have confirmed it will not be renewed.
The news broke after Welbeck was honoured in front of the Emirates Stadium crowd alongside the soon to be departing Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech following the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Sunday.
It had already been confirmed that a guard of honour would be in place for Juventus-bound Ramsey and retiring Cech.
But it was a surprise to see Welbeck also handed a memento from Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick, with the stadium announcer adding that the former Manchester United man would be “missed in the dressing room”.
Emery, who has been asked about the striker’s contract situation recently and given nothing away, confirmed his departure at the end of his press conference.
“I spoke with the club about this situation. The decision is he’s going to leave,” he said.
Welbeck joined Arsenal from United in 2014 and won the FA Cup with the north London side, where he was often utilised as an attacking option off the bench.
The presentation was somewhat flat after the Gunners were effectively knocked out of the top four race with a frustrating draw against Brighton.
Arsenal’s best route into the Champions League is now through winning the Europa League.
Despite the disappointing display, many Gooners stayed behind to pay tribute to Ramsey for eleven years of service as well as to Welbeck and Cech.
Ramsey was reduced to tears as he bid farewell to the club after 11 years ahead of his free transfer switch to Juventus.
“It’s very emotional, it’s been a hell of a journey,” the Welshman said.
His voice cracking, he added: “Eleven years of my life, so much has happened in that, when I look back. You can tell by my voice how much it means to me.
“I’m just grateful for the opportunity to play for this great club and spend so many years here.
“I spent 11 years here, I came here at 17-years-old a boy, and I’m leaving a man. I’ve got a family, my wife, my kids, so much has happened, I’m just grateful for the opportunity here.
“Obviously I’m really excited for the new challenge and new chapter in my life, but today it’s all about this.
“This is where I grew up, I just want to take this in today and let it settle in for a few more days before I can really look forward and concentrate on that.”
Cech paid tribute to his team-mate, saying his departure would be a “big loss” for the club.
“I think when he came from Cardiff nobody really knew how great a player the club brought in and I think he gave everything he could all those 11 years,” said the goalkeeper.
“It’s really a shame that today he couldn’t be on the pitch, because, everything he has done for the club, he would have deserved to be on the pitch today and maybe the score would have been better.”
