Manchester United are still in the running to sign Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports.
The £75million-rated Ajax captain has been heavily tipped to join Barcelona this summer amid interest from the Red Devils, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus.
The 19-year-old led Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals and helped the Dutch giants win a first Eredivisie title in five years, as well as the Dutch Cup.
“We’ve shown everyone what Ajax is about, what kind of city Amsterdam is,” De Ligt said.
“We have shown everyone what we stand for, and that is attacking football. We’ve shown everyone what the big man above us [Ajax legend Johan Cruyff] wanted to see and what he expected from us.
“We did it all together – experienced players, youth players, everyone. And the supporters, we want to thank you for a fantastic season.”
De Ligt’s leadership skills could help tighten up a leaky United defence which conceded 54 goals in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.
And The Telegraph claim the Netherlands defender remains interested in a move to Old Trafford, despite the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Last week, De Ligt insisted there is no deal in place between Ajax and Barcelona to sign him as the LaLiga champions are also keen to buy Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

The France forward, who on Tuesday announced he will leave Atletico this summer, has a £104million release clause.
It is believed Barca would be unable to fund both Griezmann and De Ligt transfers in the same window.
De Ligt is expected to make up his mind over his next move after the Nations League finals next month.
