Ben Foster and his Watford team-mates are doing all they can to try and persuade veteran goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes to put his retirement plans on hold.
The 38-year-old has indicated he will retire at the end of the season when his current contract expires.
Gomes has been Watford’s starting goalkeeper in the FA Cup this season and has let in just one goal in the last four ties as the Hornets reached the semi-final.
Foster, who joined from West Brom last summer, has been the Premier League starter but believes changing the goalkeeper for the cup does not have a negative effect on the team.
He said: “For a team like us when you are changing outfield players it can maybe make a difference but when it comes to the goalkeeper, especially when you are talking about someone with the talent of Gomes, I get to see him in training and he’s an unbelievable goalkeeper, I don’t think it makes that much of a difference.
“If you are changing a handful of outfield players then it can make some difference but Gomes is still a world class goalkeeper.
“I still think he has a lot to offer. He spoke about retiring at the end of the season and we are all trying our best to get him to change his mind.â€

Foster returned to the club he spent two seasons at earlier in his career after leaving West Brom last summer.
The 35-year-old was on loan from Manchester United when he helped Watford win promotion to the Premier League in the 2005-06 season and then won their player of the season the following year.
He has helped the Hornets up to eighth in the league with 43 points from 30 games.
“We are a good team. We signed in the summer and straight away could see we’ve got a lot of quality in not just the starting XI but throughout the team,†Foster said.
“It proved me right straight away and we got off to a great start and just kept it going as well.
“When you get to my age, you just feel a lot more comfortable, you know what you are and you know what you can do and can’t do.
