Two Russia internationals have been sent to jail after being found guilty of hooliganism.
Zenit St Petersburg’s Aleksandr Kokorin and Krasnodar’s Pavel Mamaev attacked a trade ministry official with a chair and beat up a driver in Moscow.
Both men have been in custody since the incident took place in October. Kokorin will serve 18 months in prison and Mamaev 17 months.
In addition, Kokorin’s younger brother Kirill and their friend Alexander Protosavitsky have also been found guilty.
The punishment for hooliganism is a maximum penalty of seven years in jail.
Kokorin has 48 caps for Russia, but missed last year’s home World Cup through injury, while 30-year-old Mamaev has 15 caps.
A statement from the Russian Premier League after the incident read: “The Russian Premier League expresses its outrage and strongly condemns their rowdy behaviour.
“This act not only casts a shadow over the glorious names of FC Zenit and FC Krasnodar, but all of Russian football.
“We believe that those responsible should be punished in the most severe way. There is no place for hooligans in football.”
