It’s safe to say the future’s bright for English football.
In 2018, the squad reached a first World Cup semi-final for 28 years and followed it up by topping a difficult UEFA Nations League group.
What’s more exciting for Three Lions fans is that there is a squad littered with immense young talent.
Jadon Sancho, at just 18 years old, is tearing up the Bundesliga.
While Declan Rice, who could make his England debut against Czech Republic on Friday, has been one of West Ham’s standout performers this season.
The potential of the squad is frightening, which begs the question, what could the England starting XI look like in four years time at the World Cup in Qatar?

LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper: Angus Gunn
Southampton goalkeeper Gunn is enjoying a great run of games in the Premier League and he can count himself unlucky not to be called up for the upcoming matches.
The stopper has broken through the ranks under Ralph Hassenhuttl and has kept two clean sheets and picked up a man of the match award in five Premier League appearances.
He is tall and agile and at just 23 years old he has a great chance of being England’s no.1 in four years time.
Defenders: Ben Chilwell, Joe Gomez, Declan Rice, Trent Alexander-Arnold
Chilwell takes the spot on the left side after some sublime performances for the Foxes this season.
Pep Guardiola reportedly wants him at Man City to provide competition for the injury-prone Benjamin Mendy.
The full-back is an extremely capable full-back, especially offensively – and at just 22 years old he will no doubt be a mainstay in the England set-up for years to come.
Gomez formed a brilliant partnership with Player of the Year contender Virgil van Dijk before he fractured his leg in December.
He is just 21 years old and is already an imperious centre-back. When Harry Kane retires he also has potential to be a future captain of the side.
Along with Gomez we can slot in West Ham’s newest sensation Rice.
The Hammers starlet is so versatile and can play either as a defensive midfielder or at centre-back.
His calmness on the ball and his knack of choosing a forward rather than a sideways pass will be greatly effective for Southgate’s men.
Finally, Alexander-Arnold is already one of the best full-backs in England and arguably Europe at just 20 years old.
If he remains fit he will surely be England’s first choice in Qatar.

Midfielders: Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dele Alli
Loftus-Cheek has amazingly only started one Premier League match this season but his talent is clear for all to see.
He is still just 23 years old and he possesses the great ability of keeping the ball in tight spaces.
Loftus-Cheek is also a goal threat from midfield, something every great team needs.
In the other midfield position could be 22-year-old Alli – who has previously played in a deep-lying role.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has occasionally used Alli in a midfield two with Eric Dier and with more years on his belt he will only get better as a central midfielder.
He is also great defensively and could be great for the team when not in possession.
Forwards: Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane
England’s forward choices are endless and it’s impossible to include all of the big-hitters without the team being suspect defensively.
Kane will be 29 and at the peak of his powers, while Sterling and Rashford will be 28 and 25 respectively with bags full of experience at the top level under their belt.
The three of them have already played in a World Cup and they could use their success in Russia as vital experience to go on and win the tournament in 2022.
Sancho, who is enjoying a superb breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, could be used behind Kane to complete an explosive front four.
However, the three behind Kane are all hugely versatile players and their positions in the front three behind the striker are very much interchangeable.
Have a look at the line-up in full below…
