And in his pre-match press conference, Pochettino was in reminiscent mood, and told the media what happened in his first meeting with Levy.

Pochettino said: “My first meeting with Daniel Levy was in his house. He was without shoes, he was in his pyjamas. It was in the afternoon.

“We were talking my feeling about the Spurs squad. They showed me there were more than 30/35 players. I said it’s nearly an NFL team. How are you going to manage that?

“We were talking about our ideas and how we could share those ideas.

“The principle objective to help the team finish the training ground and stadium but remain competitive.”

Despite the progress at Spurs, they still haven’t won a major trophy since 2008 when they beat Chelsa to the League Cup.

But Pochettino insists he’s still proud of what he, his staff and the players have achieved so far.

He added: “I think it’s most important that we can share and create a special idea about how to develop the work and the philosophy here.

“The most important is the trust from the board and the people. We are lucky people that we feel the trust from the people above us.

“It means you have time to settle your ideas and principle. Always we can do better and we are always trying to find better quality and better ideas.

“But I feel proud of all we’ve achieved here. Maybe we didn’t achieve a trophy, but with perspective we’ve achieved a lot here.”
