Tottenham news: Christian Eriksen ‘verbally agrees’ summer switch to Real Madrid but could cost £129m

Christian Eriksen has ‘verbally agreed’ to leave Tottenham and join Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish reports.

However, the midfielder will not be cheap, with AS saying the Denmark international will cost a huge £129million, despite him having just one year left on his current contract.

The two clubs have history when it comes to doing business in the transfer market, first selling Luka Modric in 2012 and a year later, Gareth Bale swapped north London for the Spanish capital for a then world-record fee of £85.3m.

Real Madrid are said to be encouraged that a deal will take place due to Eriksen’s reluctance to sign a new contract with Spurs and a provisional agreement has reportedly been put in place with him.

Eriksen is also wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, as the Norwegian plans to rebuild his squad and considers the Spurs play-maker to be a vital component in reestablishing the Red Devils as a footballing force.

Having spent three years with Ajax, Eriksen moved to Spurs in August 2013 and has become one of the best midfielders in Europe, scoring 65 times in 271 matches.

In his most recent appearance, Eriksen played against his former side in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuedsay, as Spurs were beaten 1-0, thanks to a goal from Donny va de Beek.
