Chelsea fined £11,100 by UEFA following crowd trouble during Malmo trip

Chelsea have been fined £11,000 by UEFA following the behaviour of their fans during the Europa League trip to Malmo in February.

Blues fans invaded the pitch and threw missiles during the last-32 clash in Sweden, which the Premier League club won 2-1.

Their hosts have been fined £49,000 after the home crowd also lobbed objects and set off fireworks.

Police were forced to move in and calm down the situation after Malmo fans appeared to launch plastic cups into the away end at the start of the game.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard was manhandled by a home supporter who demanded his shirt after the game.

The 28-year-old was grabbed by the fan who only released his grip when given the yellow souvenir.

Talking of the atmosphere at the Swedbank Stadion after the game, Maurizio Sarri said: “The atmosphere was like a little Naples. They are usually 50,000, it was wonderful.”

It was a 50th England cap to forget for Raheem Sterling on Thursday night in Portugal.

The Manchester City star captained his country for the first time in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands, but was powerless to stop the Three Lions capitulating.

A 3-1 defeat at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimarães after extra time will sting for Sterling, but he at least managed to win one of his own personal battles.

With the game locked at 1-1 and England looking to regain control of the game, the 24-year-old flew into a challenge with Ballon d’Or contender Virgil Van Dijk.

After showing incredible strength and balance, Sterling starts to dribble away from the colossus with the intention of causing serious damage.

However, as with his previous 64 Liverpool appearances, Van Dijk was not about to be dribbled past and recovered superbly by sending the 5ft 7ins star absolutely flying.

England had been hoping to face Portugal in the finale and looked on course for a shot at their first trophy in 53 years as Southgate’s side reacted well to Matthijs De Ligt cancelling out Marcus Rashford’s first-half penalty.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) - Chelsea's Willian will replace Neymar in Brazil's Copa America squad, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Friday (June 7), after the world's most expensive player was sidelined by injury.
Willian, 30, was a surprise choice as the country's media had tipped Real Madrid youngster Vinicius Junior and Tottenham's Lucas Moura as the front-runners to take the Paris Saint-Germain forward's place.
"In accordance with competition rules, CBF sent Conmebol the medical reports of Neymar's injury. After receiving permission, the player (Willian) was summoned," the CBF said in a statement.
Willian, who has played for Chelsea since 2013, represented Brazil at the last two World Cups and was a substitute in the Blues' 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final on May 29.
He has made 65 appearances for the Selecao with his last international match coming in November's friendly victory over Cameroon.
Neymar was ruled out of the Copa America after spraining his ankle during the 2-0 win over Qatar in a friendly on Wednesday, capping a nightmare year for the world's most expensive player who faces accusations of rape which he strongly denies.
A distraught-looking Neymar covered his face with his hands as he sat on the bench after hobbling from the field in the 20th minute.
PSG said on Thursday the star striker would be reassessed by the club's medics within "72 hours to define the rehabilitation process and recovery time for the player".

Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of Wales’ Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday through injury, manager Ryan Giggs has confirmed.

The Arsenal midfielder was noticeably absent from an open training session at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday morning.

It was understood Ramsey had already made the journey back to Arsenal for treatment, and Giggs confirmed the news at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

It’s a big blow for the manager ahead of the opening game of Wales’ European Championship qualification campaign.

“We hoped Aaron would make it but he has gone back to Arsenal,” said Giggs.

“It’s a blow.

“We have plan B and we’ve worked on it during the week. He was in good form but it gives a chance for someone else.”

Giggs revealed earlier this week that Ramsey has missed Wednesday’s narrow friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago after he ‘picked up a bit of knock’.

The midfielder, who will become the highest-paid British footballer of all time when he joins Juventus in the summer, watched from the stands alongside Gareth Bale and Ben Davies as Ben Woodburn’s added-time winner saved the Dragons’ blushes.

But while Ramsey will miss out against Slovakia, Bale is now fully fit and will be available.

The Real Madrid ace has been struggling with injury in Spain, but after being rested against Trinidad and Tobago he is raring to go to help get their Euro 2020 quest off to a flyer.

“I’m looking forward to this qualifying campaign for Wales,” said the forward.

“We’re ready to give everything for the jersey. We want to be playing in the major tournaments and experience again what we’ve been through.

“We’re going for top spot. There’s no reason why we can’t win the group.”

Carl Jenkinson levelled the game just before the break before Alexandre Lacazette put Arsenal in front on 51 minutes before Tyreece John-Jules put the result beyond doubt, although a late penalty meant it ended 3-2.

But this is almost insignificant in the eyes of these Gooners, who were so outraged with Mustafi’s performance they’ve taken to Twitter to vent their concerns.

They claim that 26-year-old, who was substituted at half-time for Laurent Koscielny, looked out of his depth against much weaker opposition than Arsenal are used to.
